Nitrogen generators: Technology you can rely on

Posted in news on 21th February 2020

Peak Gas nitrogen generation systems give you complete control over your nitrogen process gas, so you always have a supply you can rely on.

Bulk gas or liquid is still the most common & conventional method of nitrogen gas supply for manufacturing or processing plants and has been so for decades. Whether a plant uses nitrogen gas cylinders, liquid micro-bulk or has a large bulk tank that is regularly refilled, they are reliant on the timely delivery of a nitrogen supply to keep production operations running. This is because like any supplied consumable, the bulk nitrogen gas supply is continually depleted and therefore must be topped up, before it runs out or production processes will grind to a halt.

Plants that have used conventional bulk nitrogen gas suppliers for years, have become somewhat accustomed to the challenges and limitations around this method of supply. They are now used to all the scheduling and accepting of deliveries, placing orders, stockpiling for periods of high usage and, of course, dealing with occasional supply issues that threaten plant productivity. The truth is anything from a broken-down delivery truck to maintenance at the nitrogen gas supplier’s production facility can result in delayed deliveries. This means that manufacturing facilities often need to hold a backup reserve of Liquid N2 in hope that this will be enough to keep things running until their late delivery arrives. The problem is, this supply boils off too, with significant volumes lost to off-gassing, as pressure in the storage vessel builds up & releases.

So, what is a manufacturing plant to do? The answer is simpler than you think – invest in an on-site nitrogen generation system. By installing a nitrogen generator,  manufacturing facilities can take full control of their nitrogen process gas supply. With a nitrogen generator on site, all the hassles of placing orders, scheduling and accepting deliveries and dealing with delivery delays are eliminated. So, in theory, the decision to upgrade to a nitrogen generator should be an easy one. However, sometimes making changes, even when they are for the best, can lead to unnecessary apprehension. The fact is nitrogen generators have been around for a long time and are a trusted method of gas supply – so much so, that several industry sectors, such as Analytical Science & Research, almost always prefer now to buy one instead of being reliant on bulk cylinder or liquid supply. The engineering & technology is completely sound and has developed to a level of being extremely robust.

As a global leader in the design, manufacture and support of nitrogen generation systems, Peak Gas Generation are fully aware of the reservations Production & Facilities Managers often have when considering investing in a nitrogen generator. The main concerns raised, before making a purchase, can be broken down, primarily into 2 questions, which we have addressed below.

Are nitrogen gas generators safe?

Yes! Nitrogen generators are by far the safest method of nitrogen gas supply to your facility and for two basic reasons. Firstly, they have no requirement for manual handling, like high-pressure gas cylinders or hazardous liquid nitrogen micro-bulk tanks. Secondly, unlike conventional bulk cylinders or tanks, nitrogen gas generators produce gas on demand and don’t have a large stored, high pressure volume of gas - therefore they do not have the potential to leak rapidly, venting dangerous quantities of nitrogen gas into the surrounding atmosphere. Furthermore, all Peak Gas nitrogen generators are designed and manufactured in our ISO 9001 accredited manufacturing centre of excellence, to the strictest of standards and are independently tested / certified to ensure compliance with all of the applicable safety, pressure equipment directives and electromagnetic standards. You can learn more about our manufacturing centre of excellence, and our many related accreditations and awards, here.

How reliable are our nitrogen generators?

Peak Gas Generation i-Flow nitrogen generators are highly durable and robust systems, built and tested to the highest standards. They require minimal service and are expertly engineered to guarantee a long operational life. In fact, to date there have been no i-Flow nitrogen generation system failures, which serves as testimony for how reliable these systems are – but don’t take our word for it, read some of our i-Flow customer user stories here.

Furthermore, the performance of all i-Flow nitrogen gas generators has been independently tested, verified and confirmed to exceed the international standards of EIGA, EC Food Grade, JECFA, European Pharmacopoeia, & US FDA. So, you can rest assured that when you choose Peak as your nitrogen gas supplier, our systems will more than adequately meet the needs of your applications and processes.
